Elzybells birthday card

My sister’s birthday was on Christmas Eve but we celebrated her big day today!

I’m still on my “using scraps” kick and this is what I came up with for her birthday card;

I used an image that I had stamped a while back, colored it with Copic markers, and cut it in a small oval shape using my Colluzle. I then ran it through my Xyron upside down so that the glue would be on the front on the image. I sprinkled it with Martha Stewart crystal fine glitter and adhered it to a red scallop that was in my punch-out stash.  I found a scrap the same color as the scallop and ran a Spellbinders tag shape through my Big Shot, wrapped some Papertrey baker’s twine through it and around the patterned paper and adhered it to a Bazzill cardstock base with Score Tape.

The Stampin Up greeting was stamped with Onyx BlackVersamark ink and embossed with Judikins clear embossing powder.

P.S. She thought the card was really cute!

More Makeovers…

Supplies used:

Bazzill and Neenah cardstock, Great Impressions stamps, faux tissue tape, Viva pearl pens, MS twine, corner rounder

Supplies used:

Neenah and glossy cardstock, Paper Co. and Great Impressions stamps, Tim Holtz alcohol inks, Judikins White Diamond embossing powder, (love this stuff!!!) and Versamark ink

The lighting is BAD in this card :(

The card base is Neenah Solar white cardstock, although it looks blue. The alcohol inks used are Purple Twilight, Sailboat blue, and Silver.  Also, the glitter from the Judikins embossing powder is really pretty, but not at all obvious in this picture

Supplies used:

Bazzill, Neenah cardstock and My Mind’s Eye patterned paper, Great Imptressions and Doodlebug stamps, May Arts ribbon, Tim Holtz crackle paint, snowflake punch, Stampendous class a’peel gem, gold embossing powder (Believe) and Shimmerz paints.

Christmas Card Makeovers

Back when I first discovered A Muse Art stamps, I noticed all of their cards were a manageable 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 which I really like,….. but the Post Office charges you more to mail them. WTH?

So I decided to make them into the standard size and this is my favorite makeover so far;

BEFORE

AFTER

I used DCWV letter rub-ons and a strip of MME paper below the image and adhered it to a white Bazzill card base.

LOVE how it turned out, but I really love white on Kraft!

Next…………

BEFORE

AFTER

First, I replaced the brads with my Stampendous class a’ peel gem stickers and adhered the panel to the front of a solar white Neenah card base. I then added a pinched border to the left side of the card as well as a MM glitter snowflake. Next I machine stitched a strip of paper ruffle to the bottom of the card. Again, I am pleased with how it turned out.

Next…………. I do not have a BEFORE picture, but it was UGLY! Made it in a class and liked the paper but not the design. Here is the AFTER;

The right side of the panel had a stamped sentiment (in green) and  was adhered to black cardstock.

I covered the sentiment with a Copic colored Santa and added MM glitter rub-ons to the left of Santa. I adhered him onto a Hot off the Press patterned Christmas paper and then on to another HOTP pp adhered to a white Neenah CS base. I wish I had taken a before shot! I also distressed Santa with my fingernail and some Vintage Photo Distress ink with a blender tool.

More to come, I’m having fun!

My 2011 Christmas Collection

I started out my Christmas card planning by committing to using only scraps from my extensive stash to design my cards. All was well until I looked at the calendar and realized that time is racing by and the temptation to just buy a few boxes of cards was weighing heavily on my mind. That is when I decided to “repurpose” my already existing stash of cards from Christmases past that didn’t “make the cut”. Some were extras, some had crooked greetings, some I had made in other classes and didn’t like them etc. etc. So I decided to repurpose. Isn’t that the “green” thing to do?

I hope I remember to do before and afters from now on, just for my own entertainment! I love before and afters!

So, this first card started out as a small note sized card with a silver embossed Christmas tree on the scalloped oval.

I peeled the tree off and put the angel cut-out on it instead, and colored it in with Niji Pearlescent watercolors, Copics and white Uniball Signo. I had “issues” with the wing color, so I stamped another image and glued the wings on top and painted them in with Oyster shell Radiant Pearls. I then adhered a punched border to the left side and adhered that down to the flip side of the blue dot paper (striped). Then onto the white card base.

The next card had an ugly mustard colored oval in the middle with a greeting and a dew drop flanking each side. I had made this one in a class I took and never really liked it, but love the patterned paper, so I kept it in the “didn’t make the cut” pile.

So, I took the ugly oval off and replaced it with this cute vintage tag and added some gold cord. I then adhered it to what I think Bazzill calls “Pear” green card base. Much better, trust me!

Well, back to work for me, I want to send my cards out on Monday! Stay tuned for more makeovers!

DS Challenge #80

This month the DT only has one sample to make and the theme is “Glittery Holiday”.

I love to use glitter whenever I can and rarely make a card without it. This time I chose to use gems and glitter rub-ons. I ususally try to keep my Christmas cards as flat as I can for mailing, so the gems I used are actually sticker gems! Fun!!!

Celebrate Christmas~ Cardstock; Bazzill, The P aper Studio~ Other; doily, Stampendous gem stickers, Making Memories glitter rub-ons,

Well, back to making christmas cards, Id like to send them off by next week.

Niji Pearlescent Watercolors

I am really pleased with these watercolors and will probably be using these a lot on my Christmas cards this year!

Tis the Season

As I just wrote about on my other blog, it is time to get the Christmas stamps out and get busy!

I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of them!

I have wood mounter rubber, acrylic, photopolymer, wheels, and foam. I have reindeer, dogs, cats, mice, birds, penguins, tons of snowmen, snowflakes, angels, Nativity scenes, Baby Jesus, trees, holly, bulbs, lights, Santa, mailboxes, villages, bicycles……sound familiar???  I thought so!

In years past, I have mass-produced one or two themes. Other years I have made variations to many themes. Some years I have bought cards. Yes, the Camano Card Maker bought cards! ***blush*** You know how sometimes just one more thing to do will throw you into a tizzy? Well, sometimes it’s the cards! That said, for the last few years I have been challenging myself to make all of my cards, except for the base, with paper scraps. And I have a ton of them. It has actually been really fun even though It hasn’t put much of a dent in my stash. I have come to enjoy making Christmas cards again by trying something new and challenging! I also try to make everything flat so that I don’t have to pay extra postage, although in normal time, it doesn’t bother me. Well, except for the long wait in line at the Post Office :(

If you promise not to laugh at my photography, I will let you see some of my humble creations. Most of the images are also scraps. Remember, DON’T LAUGH! I took these pictures for future inspiration, not for intended posting! These were made from saved scraps.

You get the idea! Try it and you’ll feel good about  using what you’ve got (so you can get more!!! did I say that?) and being “green”!

A Muse Studio challenge

The challenge was to make a thank you card using a holiday theme.

I love this basket of apples from Imaginisce!

Giving Thanks~ Cardstock; GMUND Savanna, Bazzill, Neenah~ Stamp; Imaginisce Snag ‘em stamps, Great Impressions~ Ink; Memento, Distress~ Other; Blending foam, Cricut, Nestabilities, misc markers, gems

DS Challenge #78

I have another card completed for the DS DT Up in the Air challenge.

This little guy is one of my oldest stamps and has gotten much love over the years, from valentine, to thinking of you, to celebrate, to happy birthday. I knew I’d want to use it for the Up in the Air challenge and this is what I came up with.

Hang in There!~ Cardstock; Bazzill, Neenah~ Stamp; All Night Media~ twine; Papertrey Ink~ letters; K& Co.,~ cloud stencil; Great Impressions~ other; lgt. blue chalk, gems, Copic markers

I thought this would be cute for someone dreading their birthday, or an encouragement for someone going through a hard time. It could even be used for a get well.

I had planned it differently in my mind, but because of a boo boo I did with red ink, (located under the H and the A), I had to improvise since I didn’t wan’t to do it over! That is also why the sentiment is a little higher than I normally would have placed it!

Anyway, I like the way it turned out.

Happy Sunday!

New challenge

The next challenge for our DS DT is to use the theme “Up in the Air”.

I immediately thought of this reindeer card that I made for a shop display last year.

Now, to find the stamp!  Oh well, I have a lot of reindeer stamps, as well as tons of snowmen, snowflakes, angels, etc. etc…..  :)

Cardstock; Bazzill, Bo Bunny~ Stamp; Inkadinkado~ other; Versamark, white embossing powder, white pen, black gems, paper piercer, Martha Stewart border punch, sewing machine

Now to get working on some Christmas cards!
